No Matter What

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

1 John 3:1

I will always love you—no matter what. This is a phrase I seek to drill into my children’s hearts and minds because I want them not just to know it but believe it. There are days when their choices put a temporary strain or fracture in our relationship, but I am wholeheartedly committed to them because I am their parent. And as their parent, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, without even a hint of reservation, that I will love them no matter what. Perhaps you, too, are a parent or play a spiritual parental role in the life of another and understand this profound, committed love.

Sometimes, even when we comprehend unconditional love from a human perspective, it can be challenging to apply it to our relationship with God. But when you are a child of God, He loves you no matter what. If you belong to God, your relationship is secure. It was bought and paid for with the very blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. Therefore, nothing you can do will cause you to lose His love for you (Romans 8:31-39). No matter what! The same way you would go to the ends of the earth for the most precious people in your life, God has and will do the same for you, and even more.

Pause to Ponder: Is it hard for you to believe and rest secure in the truth that you are God’s child? If so, take a moment to read Romans 8:31-39 and claim that you are a beloved child of God, and there is nothing you could ever do to make Him love you less.
